Unique Things about Mars:

1. Mars has the largest mountain in the solar system.

This is called “Olympus Mons” and it’s actually an active volcano. Olympus Mons has a height of 15.5 miles and 372 miles in length. To give you an idea on the size, Mount Everest is between 5 and 6 miles high. Mars also has the largest canyon system in the universe until now, “Valles Marineris,” it is 2,500 miles long and 4 miles deep.

2. Mars is a planet that was first seen by astronomers, so people are always wondering about life on mars.

This is why we always imagine the foreign invaders / aliens who come from there, and not Jupiter or Venus. In fact, Mars is one planet in the solar wind, freezing temperatures, and has a very thin atmosphere. That means not possibly live there, are much more likely to live on Venus. Straight lines on the surface of Mars is believed the scientists are water proof.

3. The name derives from the name Mars the Roman god, the red color reminiscent of the bloodshed.

The red color on the surface soil of Mars is composed of iron oxide, or often called rust.

4. Mars is quite small, compared with other planets in the solar system.

Mars is half the size of the earth. Mars has about one third of Earth’s gravity, so you can jump three times higher.

5. Around the 1970s, the Viking orbiter images of Mars taken what appears as a giant face and pyramids carved into the surface of the planet in the Cydonia region.

Looks like the Sphinx of Egypt’s largest and 2,000 meters and kilometers. While this invention has got UFOlogists excited, the scientists say they simply eroded mesa. Still many believe that the face is too symmetrical to nature, and that they are evidence of an ancient alien civilization.

6. Mars has some uncontrollable weather in the solar system.

Unique Things about Mars – It has a dust storms, tremendous wind storms,  and a tornadoes (dust storm). In 2001, a large dust storm of Mars covered the entire planet Earth a few days. Scientists are puzzled that the planet’s atmosphere is so small be such a raging storm. They do not know what causes them, but there are many storm when Mars is close to the sun. When it’s at the far end of its orbit, there are clouds of ice made of carbon dioxide and dust. It is also strange because Mars has no surface water.

7. Many missions to Mars to search for life on Mars, and also look for water.

After years of studying every crack in the planet’s surface for evidence of water, the scientists finally found it. Phoenix mission finds that there are large deposits of ice inside the planet.

8. Mars has two months, and one month would collide.

The moon Phobos orbits close to the Martian atmosphere. One day, the gravitational pull by destroying the moon to bits. The debris will stay in orbit of Mars, make a ring like Saturn’s rings. Finally, it would rain down on Mars. Scientists do not know when this will happen, but predict that within the next 50 years.

9. Of all the missions, one third of all missions to Mars have succeeded.

So many missions to Mars have been lost which has led scientists to wonder if something strange happens. They refer to Mars as the “Bermuda Triangle” of the solar system.
